Engaging with the public is part of our commitment towards science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. Below you can take a look at a few of the main highlights of our public outreach work. Many of the events we take part in feature some of our SKA People and as such showcase the diversity of the SKA. |Girls Night Out, Jodrell Bank, UK – 9 March 2017||Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre’s popular “Girls Night Out” is back to engage and interest girls of all ages into the field of STEM subjects, particularly astronomy. Dr. Anna Scaife (to be featured here soon!) is the invited speaker.|
|Bluedot, Jodrell Bank, UK – 22-24 July 2016||Bluedot is a three-day festival exploring the realms of music, science, technology and the arts, taking place at Jodrell Bank. Some 15,000 festival goers attended where they had to opportunity to engage with scientists & engineers working on the SKA.|
|ScienceX, Trafford Centre, UK – 23-24 April 2016||Science Extravaganza or ScienceX for short is an outreach event at the Trafford shopping Centre in Manchester, which sees around 70,000 shoppers every weekend. The SKA team was present together with Jodrell Bank Observatory and the University of Manchester, with a range of activities on hand, from the interactive SKA model to a virtual reality headset that offered a tour of the universe at different wavelengths.|
|Girls Night Out, Jodrell Bank, UK – 20 June 2015||SKAO & Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre jointly organised a “Girls Night Out” aiming to engage and interest girls of all ages into the field of STEM subjects, particularly astronomy.|
|Your Future, Your Ambition, Emirates Stadium, London, UK – 5 March 2015||YFYA brings together companies that embrace diversity and understand the value a diverse workforce brings to their business. Together with Jodrell Bank, the University of Manchester and STFC, they invited us as part of their event to introduce students to exciting career paths in STEM fields!|
|TEDx Manchester, UK – 2 March 2014||SKA system engineer Maria Grazia Labate gave a stellar talk on the SKA at TEDx Manchester in front of some 800 university students!|
